The Art Directors Club of Metropolitan Washington invited Craig Welsh to the nation's capitol to help judge its annual show.

Welsh joined Jeffrey Conrad, president/chief creative officer of Cleveland-based American Greetings, and Jessica Hische, Brooklyn-based letterer/illustrator (pictured below), for a weekend of scrutinizing several hundred design entries.






In addition to reviewing work on Saturday, each of the judges took an active role in presenting at Friday evening's "Meet the Judges" event at the Fathom Gallery. Conrad spoke of peduncle elongation (look it up - appropriate for DC's cherry blossom season), Care Bears, and Strawberry Shortcake while Hische explained how she nervously sweats (only on one side of her body) prior to and during public speaking events, which she does quite often. Welsh explained how high school basketball (in the short shorts era) led to his career in design. Fairly certain the evening caught all the attendees off guard. Pretty sure that everyone had fun.
