Judge's Selection for "Title 02 - The Giving Issue"
We're honored to have five pieces included in AIGA Philadelphia's semi-annual exhibition of the tri-state region's (Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania) top 100 design projects.
In conjunction with this year's Philadelphia Design Awards exhibition, AIGA Philadelphia also presented the "AIGA Fellows Award Retrospective" in The University of the Arts' Hamilton Hall gallery. Work from faculty members Hans Allemann and Joel Katz, along with designers Frank Baseman, Laurie Churchman, Ken Hiebert, Lanny Sommese and Alina Wheeler was included.
Thank you to AIGA Philadelphia, The University of the Arts, chairpersons, committee members, judges, and everyone else who contributed time and energy to the exhibition - your efforts are very much appreciated. |

Above: Music Friday / Keys for the City
A 16-page newsprint piece designed to promote Music Fridays in Lancaster (PA) City and Music For Everyone's "Keys for the City" street pianos project was among the five projects selected for the PDA exhibition.
Below: Title 02 - The Giving Issue (Judge's Selection)
Thanks, Robynne and Mike! What a great surprise to find out that this project was one of only five to have earned a "Judge's Selection" award; even nicer to have it selected by the amazing talents at Modern Dog.

Title is an ongoing promotional project for our studio. This issue was distributed just as the winter holiday season began and we used the timing as an opportunity to repurpose past logo projects into sheets of gift wrap.
There were several other elements beyond the gift wrap patterns that we incorporated into the "Giving" theme. We used one page for "Do" and "Don't" listings of what to give - "DO give a helping hand" and "DON'T give the finger," for examples. Another page included a series of coupons that we felt might help recipients of the issue have some fun; a great story about a client's son using the "Calling Shotgun" coupon to force his older sister out of the front passenger seat! Amazing. We didn't really think we'd hear of actual coupon uses.
But, we saved the best for the last spread. After visiting an exhibition at the AIGA headquarters in NYC and taking in the incredible work of Norman Ives we were inspired. We wrote a message and split it into 192 numbered triangular sections that when cut apart and glued into the provided grid would alert the puzzle solver that he/she may have just won an iPod. We mailed 1,000 copies of the issue and anxiously waited for someone to e-mail to claim the prize. As fate would have it when the e-mail arrived it was from a team of two people who had completed the puzzle. So, in the spirit of giving, we bought a second iPod and gave away two.
